  • Specialist advice where NZ trusts have overseas, specifically Australian, resident beneficiaries;
  • Advising on the interaction of the transitional resident rules and the taxation of trusts; and
  • Helping charities with FBT, PAYE and structuring advice to ensure they are not over-taxed.

Advice to new migrants and high net worth individuals moving to NZ

  • Advice on when NZ tax residence commences or finishes;
  • When the transitional residence period commences or finishes;
  • Use of pre-migration and post-migration trusts and the income tax effect, including when to make elections and their effect;
  • Liaising with international advisors to produce a synthesised solution from a NZ perspective; and
  • Any other income tax or GST issues for new migrants.

Advice to privately owned retirement village owners

  • Income Tax structuring advice to ensure tax advantages are retained;
  • GST advice, where relevant, to ensure maximum GST is claimed on costs and where mixed-use calculations are required, how to go about doing that;
  • Applications to the IRD regarding mixed-use apportionment for GST purposes; and
  • Any other income tax or GST related issues for privately owned retirement villages.

IRD disputes

  • Managing complex tax audits and risk reviews;
  • Liaising with the IRD regarding your dispute, and managing the dispute to your advantage;
  • Any other aspect relating to tax disputes.
